Finding Your True North!
My husband and I have 3 sons, ages 24, 25 & 27 and all 3 of our sons have been blessed with the freedom of exploring life, finding their passion and more importantly finding their “Truth North”!
Now some may say, what does a “20 something” know about finding their true north in life, they haven’t truly lived long enough to know what they really want in life.
Well that’s the point! They haven’t found it yet, but we’ve taught them that life is a journey and not a destination. Life is for exploring, adventure, loving and living!
I’ve been a Counselor for over 20 years and through my experience the 1 consistent factor people desire in life is to find their Purpose, their Calling, their True North… but here’s the kicker, most people are so busy running the “rat race” of life until they don’t quiet themselves long enough or give themselves enough time to truly find it!
I recently read an article by a young man that admitted he had a few regrets about running the rat race of the typical American young adult. He graduated from high school with honors, went to college, got involved in college activities, graduate with honors and then went to work in corporate America. Sounds good right?... Well I personally can’t say there is anything wrong with his way of doing life, but he said he had regrets…, from debt, to stress to almost the detriment of his health because of the pace at which he was living and trying to keep up with everything and everyone and find his “thing”, his purpose, passion calling or true north.
In the article he mentioned that he had a brother who decided to take the exact opposite path that he took and regrettably he found his brother to be remarkably Happier, Healthier and even more Successful than he, because his brother Followed His Own Path in life, not the path set by Society.
His brother was an average high school student that decided to take a few gap years and follow his True North in life. He traveled abroad. He worked a few different jobs. He acquired a host of cultured friends and he created different experiences for himself… He basically Lived Life!
You see what this young man found out was that taking the typical “American Dream” path was not the ideal path for him. Not only did it cost him significantly more money due to college debt, but it also robbed him of some of the most precious years of his youth because he rushed through them. He said he realized he was indoctrinated at a young age to believe that running the rat race of life was what he needed to do in order to be Happy and Successful; but what he found out was his brother was really the Happier, He althier and more Successful one!
Moral of the story…don’t allow what appears to be mainstream thinking or bandwagon jumping to determine how you live your Life! Slow down, Become the Master of your own Fate! Chart your own course! Follow your own Dreams, Find YOUR TRUE NORTH & and take some time to LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!
Always with Grace & Gratitude,
Toinette
